All Fit2Dance teacher workshops and trainings are designed and led by York University's Dance Additional Qualifications instructor, international dance conference presenter and former school teacher Michelle Hillier. Michelle is committed to making dance education simple, fun and accessible for all teachers through her dynamic workshops where you will flex both your muscles and your creative mind!
All teachers will recieve a certificate of completion for their professional porfolio, as well as a receipt to be reimbursed by their board\union.
Breakin’ It Down Fit2Dance Workshop (Elementary Teachers):
Does the idea of teaching dance to your students freak you out? This hands-on workshop breaks down the elementary dance curriculum and teaches you simple ways of meeting the expectations in a fun and engaging way for your students! Learn new activities, choreography, assessment ideas and be exposed to the hottest new music and moves for your students with an emphasis on using five Elements of Dance that will keep your students active and engaged. Groove Method™ for School Teachers Curriculum Workshop (Elementary and Secondary):
Learn a revolutionary approach to teaching dance and movement to your students. The GROOVE Method is a new way to look at dance with a pedagogical focus on simplicity, creativity and is a student-centred philosophy. In this curriculm-based workshop, teachers will learn age-appropriate strategies for engaging students to develop creative and unique movements in the context of a HPE or Dance classroom setting, and develop their skills on how to teach dance and movement so that everyBODY feels motivated to DANCE in their own unique way! Exploring “DR. BEST”: The Elements of Dance (Elementary Teachers)
Body, Space, Time, Energy and Relationship……you’ve probably read these in the new dance curriculum, but how do you use and teach them? In this workshop you will learn fun and simple ways to teach the five elements of dance to your students in an inclusive way which will focus on creativity to foster a motivating classroom. From there you will watch them use the creative process to demonstrate, rehearse and perform dance pieces for your dance report card mark – and guess what? You didn’t have to “show” them any routines! You will see how easy and fun teaching dance can really be – and kids LOVE it! (1.5hr workshop)

Dance Additional Qualification Courses (Elementary and Secondary)
Michelle teaches the Dance Part 1, 2 and 3 AQ courses for York University and there is no dance experience necessary! This course is an introduction to teaching dance in the elementary and secondary panel as both a subject and teaching method. Practical workshops provide you with an opportunity to enhance your skills and confidence in using dance across the curriculum.

Dancing Through the Social Studies Curriculum (Elementary Teachers)
Make your social studies lessons come to life through movement! All teachers have kinesthetic learners in their classes, and children will love using imagery and movement to make the stories and characters in the curriculum come to life for deeper understanding. Not to mention a fabulous way to engage all students. The workshop material is designed specifically for the grade level and will show you how you can use dance and movement to deliver and assess the specific expectations and dance using your social studies lessons. Teens LOVE to dance and it is a wonderful form of physical activity! Learn how you can create a dance unit for your HPE program that is not intimidating, active, very inclusive and best of all…..you won’t have to learn ANY choreography to show and lead them! You will learn how to teach dance using a student-centred approach that is teacher-friendly and fun! You will also receive music playlist ideas and moves that are aligned with the HPE curriculum for both boys and girls classes. (3hr workshop)

Hip Hop for Kidz! (ElementaryTeachers)
Krump, breakdance, popping, locking, freezing, waving... hip hop dance is evolving! What are all these styles about? In this high‐energy workshop, teachers will learn how to make hip hop dance appropriate and fun for all students! You will learn the basic street moves set to today's popular
music. Style, technique and hip hop's history will also be introduced. (1.5hr workshop)

Dance Grooves™ (Elementary and Secondary Teachers)
See how simple it is to create a safe environment for your students to explore movement and creative self-expression through the discovery of unique and funky movement. Play with the elements of dance, balance, locomotion patterns, levels, rhythms, movements and a variety of dance genres, using elements from the HPE and dance curriculum! Music playlist and moves will be shared with all teachers. This workshop will let you find your inner GROOVE…. (1.5 hour workshop)
